Malisa Catalani was born in Rome in 1978. She currently lives and works in Bologna, a city where she has established her studio since 2010. Her artistic vision is the result of a rich and cosmopolitan journey that has led her to reside in Spain, France, the United States, and Canada. After beginning her studies in Turin at the IED, she moved to Valencia to focus on Design, subsequently completing a solid hands-on training by attending the historic artisan workshops of Faenza. In these spaces of excellence, she learned the secrets of complex materials such as ceramics, textiles, resin, and bronze, while simultaneously deepening her understanding of the Japanese philosophy and technique of Kintsugi.
Her career is marked by high-profile exhibition milestones, starting with the 2023 site-specific event I corpi di Ellis at Villa Aldrovandi Mazzacorati and the 2024 solo exhibition Rebirth at Palazzo Vassè Pietramellara. In 2025, her work intersected the world of haute couture and luxury: at the invitation of the brand Tiffany & Co., she presented the sculpture Elsa with an exclusive event inside the boutique in Galleria Cavour, the beating heart of Bologna’s luxury shopping and prestige. In the same year, she participated in the event Donne che investono sul loro futuro, promoted by the financial and wealth advisory group Fideuram and hosted in the setting of the Palazzo della Banca d'Italia, one of the city's most charming historic buildings.
The year 2026 marks a moment of strong professional momentum: as part of ART CITY Bologna, she presented the solo exhibition UNHUMAN at the SimonBart Gallery, before arriving in Venice to coincide with the 61st Art Biennale, exhibiting the sculpture Gea within the exhibition Personal Structures - Confluences, organized by the European Cultural Centre Italy.

Malisa Catalani 5 - 28 Feb 2026UNHUMAN by Malisa Catalani investigates the female body as a site of transformation and the transcendence of codified identity. The bronze sculptures originate from a classical matrix yet fracture the Greek ideal of harmony through breaks, absences, and luminous tensions. The body—traditionally conceived as a complete and closed form—becomes an unstable, vulnerable surface in constant metamorphosis, marked by internal energies that alter its presence.Read more
