Alesandro Ljubicic Australia, b. 1986
Biography
Alesandro Ljubicic is a contemporary artist born in 1986 in Jajce, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and raised in Australia, where he currently lives and works in Sydney. After studying at the National Art School in Sydney, Ljubicic developed a distinctive pictorial language focused on colour, materiality and the emotional power of nature.
His practice is best known for its richly textured floral compositions, in which the traditional subject of still life is reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. Flowers, petals and chromatic layers become vibrant painterly fields, built through dense, gestural and highly tactile brushwork. Rather than treating the floral subject as a purely decorative motif, Ljubicic transforms it into an exploration of energy, light, memory and perception.
Through a bold use of oil paint and a deeply textured surface, Ljubicic creates images suspended between abstraction and figuration, where natural beauty becomes an immersive visual experience. Colour is never merely formal: it becomes an emotional language, capable of bringing vitality, movement and depth to the painted surface.
His works have been exhibited in Australia and internationally and are held in numerous private collections. Ljubicic’s research stands out for its ability to combine immediate visual impact with material complexity, transforming the flower into a contemporary symbol of vitality, transformation and sensory intensity.
