Biography
Daniel Raynott began painting at a very early age and is entirely self-taught, shaping his artistic vision through extensive visits to museums around the world. In the 1980s he worked as a graphic designer, collaborating with several French magazines—an experience that continues to inform his pictorial language through precise lines, clean compositions, bright light and highly saturated colours.
A defining moment in Raynott’s artistic development occurred in the 1990s, when he began spending long periods in the United States, particularly in California. Long celebrated and idealised, California—with its sun-drenched landscapes, beaches and distinctive luminosity—became a central source of inspiration for the artist, embodying a lifestyle infused with optimism and ease. His canvases evoke a colourful sense of nostalgia, combining dazzling contrasts with a luminous serenity. Sleek modern villas, swimming pools shimmering with transparency and refined architectural forms recur as preferred subjects, through which Raynott revisits the glamour of the West Coast in the 1960s.
Each painting unfolds as a sunlit journey, moving between the warmth of Palm Springs, the freshness of San Francisco and the sweeping Pacific views of Malibu and Santa Monica. At once nostalgic and contemporary, his work pays homage to a land synonymous with creativity and boundless possibility. More recently, Raynott has also drawn inspiration from the chromatic richness and atmosphere of the Mediterranean coastline, following extended stays in Italy, further expanding his palette and visual references.
His work has been presented internationally, including his participation in Art Miami Fair in 2023, 2024 and 2025. In the same year, The Hilbert Museum of Los Angeles, California, acquired a painting by Daniel Raynott for its permanent collection, marking an important institutional recognition of his practice. Today, his works are held in numerous private collections across France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany and Italy, reflecting the broad international resonance of his optimistic and light-filled artistic vision.
