Lucio Fontana 1899-1968

Lucio Fontana was born in 1899 in Rosario, Argentina, and grew up artistically in Italy, developing a deep interest in painting, sculpture, and architecture.
After studying at the Accademia di Brera in Milan, he became a leading figure of 20th-century art, founding Spatialism, a movement aimed at overcoming the limits of the traditional canvas and exploring the concept of space in painting.
His research focused on light, movement, and three-dimensionality, with works that combine gesture, cuts, and perforations on the painted surface. Fontana broke away from conventional painting, transforming the canvas into a living object capable of interacting with space and the viewer.
Throughout his career he exhibited in major international museums and galleries, gaining recognition as a pioneer of contemporary art. His works have influenced generations of artists, redefining the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and installation.
Today Lucio Fontana is regarded as a master of 20th-century art, whose works continue to surprise and inspire through their innovation and expressive power.
